Description

Confederate Maj Rankin 21st North Carolina Regiment Infantry 1862,  permission note to authorize 2 soldiers to go to Guinea Station (Virginia) to catch a Negro boy of mine who left early this morning.  Approved by order of Colonel Hoke.
Back of message is a list of soldiers names.  Also included are numbers for killed, wounded, prisoners, died without dates or battles, or locations written.  Another set of numbers for Jan 1 1863 of numbers-- killed, wounded and prisoners.
