    One page manuscript letter dated April 10, 1863
    "On board Steamer...  at mouth of Cumberland (River)"
    Letter is very faint, but it appears this young is writing home to spread the news that he is well and that he passed through Ft. Donelson and Ft. Henry and is doing very well.
    In part:
    "Dear ones at home / I hasten to drop you a few lines this / morning to let you know how / I am etc. We arrived here last / night and are coaling now...
    We barreled a past of the force above Ft. Donelson yesterday...
    Give my love to all..."
