    Civil War letter handwritten by a Jamestown civilian, John Gray, dated 3 May 1864. It's addressed to an illegible recipient ''and Sister'' and reads in part: ''My wife wrote you this morning...she has invited Mary to spend the summer with us which I sincerely hope you will permit her to do and please tell Mary she may wear just as extensive hoops as she pleases. I will let down the Bars then it will be a pity if she can’t get in...let me know when she will start and I will meet her in Cleveland...she can have good musical instruction here...besides other advantages such as an occasional boat ride, fishing in the lake etc etc. her stay with us will be made as pleasant as it will be possible...John C & M. W. Gray''. 2pp. letter is in very good condition.
