    Description

    2 pg. letter, approx. 7-3/4" x 8-1/2, dated at
Springfield Township, Bradford Co., Pa., Feb. 21, 1864
, from Isaac F. Bullock, to Luke N. Pitts.
    Great Civil War content,
writing of his son asking his consent to enlist in the 7th PA Cavalry, but he thinks his son is too small for military service, and he thinks the Rebels will "starve out soon". He writes that there are many people from his area who are enlisting in Elmira, NY (just 24 miles away), because NY offers higher bounties for enlisting, and he wishes that Pennsylvania would offer as large a bounty, "and have our men enlist in our own State". More interesting content.
    Includes:
"...Emerson came home last night to get my consent to enlist in the 7th Pa. Cavalry Reg. I thought he was too small for military service. It seems to me that the Rebels will starve out soon unless they gain a great advantage over us this Spring. There is a great many enlisting from this place in Elmira on account of the large bounties paid in York State. I wish that Pa. would offer as large a bounty and have our men enlist in our own State. David Leonard, Thomas Watson, James Leonard and Darius Sopen have enlisted. Isaiah Montaye has reenlisted and is to home on a furlough..."
    Fine.
