    Description

Civil War soldier's letter, 1 pg., approx. 7-3/4" 11-1/4", dated "Near Spring Hill, Tenn., Dec. 22, 1864", from "Brad", to his wife.
Good content writing of the pursuit after the retreating Gen. Hood, but being delayed by having to have a bridge built over Rutherford's Creek. The letter was written a week after Hood's army was nearly destroyed by Gen. George H. Thomas' Army of the Cumberland at the Battle of Nashville.
    The letter reads:
    "My Dear Wife,
We are halting here for a day or two until a bridge is built over Rutherford's Creek. It has rained and snowed every day for more than a week. The roads are in an awful condition. We are having rough times now, - the roughest we have ever seen. We shall move forward soon. Old Hood is still retreating.
I have rec'd your letter of the 9th. We expect another mail in a day or two. I can write but little today, for I have a bad diarrhea and can't get time to do anything - besides it is cold. I will write you a good long letter very soon.
Boys all well. Write very often. Respects to all. Accept love and kisses for yourself and Eda.
Farewell, for a short time, my own sweet darling. God bless you.
    Yours Truly,
    Brad"
