    See the photos of this very nice CSA soldier letter that was mostly written on the back of a cover fashioned from a NC legal document.  The fellow I bought it from in the 1980s thoughtfully transcribed the letter, see the photos.  The letter was written by Lieut. LD Silver, 58th NC.
