3. Identification:   The letter is signed Thomas and talks about the 23rd and 61st Pennsylvania regiments.
4. Other Information:
A very interesting original
letter to the soldiers mother.  The letter talks about "we have been transferred from our former regt. to this the 61st Pa this movement has caused not a little dissatisfaction in both regts. the five best companies has left the 23rd the Boys seem to take it as hard as if they had been leaving their homes - the ten companies that was left felt worse then we did the 23 was counted the best in the service and it was .............we had very good ? officers and good field officers excepting the major Ely or I should say useless as he was commonly called by the boys........tell John i will write soon.......  ( must have had a brother named John) might help identify this soldiers last name?
