    Camp Tom Casey
    December 24, 1862
    My Dear Nell,
I send you back my towels to keep for me as I have no use for them here.  And also my gloves.  They want washing.  You may wear them if they fit you.  I have worn them all I want to.  I am as well as usual which is well enough.  I gave away all of my stripes, save one.  But am in hopes to have some more soon as Lieutenant Kendall has resigned.  And will probably go home next week.  The 2

Lieutenant no doubt and the orderly says if he don’t get it he shall go in the ranks and if he does your humble servant will have 3 stripes and a diamond on each arm.
I have not much to write and not much time to write it in.  I was glad to see Captain Buxton and should like to have seen Mr. Fowler but don’t expect to.  Newell will write in a short time I guess.  We have lost 9 men in this regiment.  But none in our Company.  The health of the regiment is improving ever fast now.
Captain Buxton will let the people know how we look here I suppose you’re in a hurry.

I send you one letter to keep for me you may read it if you want to.
