Description
An original American Civil War patriotic envelope featuring a secession flag of the Confederate States of America with eleven stars. The eleven-star design appeared in July 1861 after Arkansas, North Carolina and Tennessee had joined the Confederacy. This cover is blank but at least two variants exist, one printed with the names of C.S.A. President Jefferson Davis and Vice President Alexander Stephens, the other with text referencing the Battle of Bull Run. Measures 3-1/8” x 5-1/2.” Very good condition overall. Unused. Some typical paper residue on back from having been mounted in an album. See photos for details. All Confederate patriotic covers are desirable and many are scarce likely due to small production runs and lack of paper in the South during the war. American Civil War patriotic envelopes were often sold as part of stationery sets with matching or generic writing paper included. They were also available for purchase individually with proceeds going to wartime fundraising efforts. .50 USPS Standard Mail. Will combine shipping. Safely packed.
