Description
Up for sale is an Antique Original Civil War Letter Home, Very Good Condition As Shown, Please see photos for details, This letter was used as part of research for a book based upon the 5th New Jersey Infantry Regiment during the Civil War as indicated by the accompanying document as shown, Not sure if the book was ever written, To the best of what I can clearly read the letter was written by M.S. Austin 2nd Lieutenant to his mother, I cannot make out ever word although his penmanship is quite impressive, Written on December 12, 1863, He thanks his mother for her letters & package and hopes to get leave to visit her, He knows he will not be home for Christmas, He mentions his father and current weather conditions as well as the other men's opinions/attitudes towards leave, The letter was folded small when it was mailed, It measures approx 9 7/8" x 15 1/2" and is folded in half as shown, Great Piece!
