Camp Pierpoint
December 6th, 1861
Dear Friend Jason
I now seat my self down in my lonely tent to answer your ever welcome letter which I received today and glad when it was from a friend at home but ____ sorrow to hear that evin had met with such a ___ accident. I was glad you was all well I am well now and ___ and ___ There is not much news here now but I shal try and write all there is there was a harm of our men went out on a _____ a courting excursion when about 8 or 10 miles from here they run into farm rebbles and fired in to them and kiling 3 or 4 of them and taking eleven of them prisoners they were a hard looking set I tel you they were poorly drest but they had good arms then we sent out ________ yesterday and they run in to them rebelled _____ Picketts (?) and thy fired into them and they flead as fast as they could and our men killed several of them and we lost one man he was shot in the neck and kiled him instantly on man was shot in the knapsack and was not hurt we are expected to march to morrow we are going towards Centereville (?) I think we will have a brush with them there is about a thousand there _____ take enough to flay them out but they are pretty well fortified there I guess
It is pretty cold weather down here but we haven’t had an snow here yet. We have a small fier plase in our tent _____
We are vary well here I cannot think of any mor at present only my love to you all. Give any love to all my ____ friends write as soon as you get this ____
