Description
An 1891 ALS byGeneral James A. Williamson
, who started the war a lieutenant in the
4th Iowa
and finished a brigadier general. He was awarded the
Medal of Honor
for having led his regiment at
Chickasaw Bluffs
against a superior force strongly entrenched, and holding his ground when all support had been withdrawn.
The letter reads:

Dear Sir yours of the 22nd inst. informing me that I have been elected an honorary member of your society has been received. Herewith I enclose the photograph with you request in your said letter.

The letter was written on an unlined sheet of paper measuring about 4 3/4” x 7 3/4”. It is mounted to a portion of an album page measuring about 5 3/4” x 8”. The letter is in excellent condition with even toning. There is a single horizontal crease across the middle of the letter where it was originally folded.
