    Thomas W J Long was the Iowa State Sanitary Commission Agent at St Louis, Missouri, directed by Annie Wittenmeyer. An original Civil War letter from Long w ptd letterhead "Iowa State Sanitary Agency, No 2 Laclede Block, St Louis, April 16, 1863, to General NB Baker at Davenport, Iowa, regarding unclaimed express packages for officers & soldiers of Iowa regiments, requests the packages be forwarded or returned to the senders as many are valuable items and should not be sold . 1p 8 x 11" ink on blue paper. Rev w archival repairs at folds, overall VG.
