Civil War letter from Pvt. Will Burgess 120 NY Vol Brandy Station Feb 5,1864

Description

In his letter to his sister Lillie, Will thanks her for the package from home and tells her that they are opened to check for liquor. His was opened from the bottom and a jar was broken spoiling the bread. He tells her that the have fresh bread in camp and that it was no great loss. The weather has turned cold, but he expects a pair of boots promised by his brother. In a PS he asks her to send his dark tie inside the next paper from home. In a foot note on the front: From Lillie to someone that she was forwarding Will's letter to (Likely Mother) she explains the broken jar of pickles referred to in Will's letter.
