    Description

Condition as seen.  Camp Winfield Scott near Yorktown April 27th 1862, Dear Sister, I received your letter last night when I arrived in camp after a pretty hard ride.  Our company was out
    reconnoitering
, we would have had a good time of it if it had not rained.  But it rained all day and we had the appearance of drowned rats when we got home.  But I feel all right again this morning.  We have been at this place about ten days I do not think much of this part of Virginia.  It is rather wild looking and very swampy.  Our camp is about 60 yards from General McClellans HQ he pass's through our camp once or twice every day.  He is a very handsome looking man but our best General I suppose.  By the time you get this Yorktown's fate will be known.  We will then know how our General will perform.  We all place our best confidence in him for the preparations now making Yorktown, must fall. I received a letter from Molly Weidman about 4 days ago they were all well.  She wrote to me that you had gone to Maryland.  Tell sister Sarah to have patience for the present until I get back to Washington.  I suppose we will get after this battle. Give my respects to all Engineering friends.  I remain as ever your brother Geo W Weidman.  Direct yours to Washington DC 2nd US Cavalry our letters arrive better if you direct them here"
