Absolutely an original item, not a reproduction.  This item is a "cover" in philatelic terms--a Confederate States of America item of "Postal History" to be more precise.
The original letter is not present.  You are only purchasing the postal portion.
A Confederate #11 tied by a black "ORANGE C.H. VA." cancel on an "Adversity Cover" envelope made from a University of Virginia preprinted light blue colored form listing professors names and discussing their city of origin and some terms.  It may be a letter to the faculty from the President or something from a catalog, but there does appear to be a long list of Professors' names within the content.  A unique and exceptional item.  Addressed to "Rev. George H. Norton, Lexington, Va."
