    Description

    Civil War era hand addressed envelope to Fanny Chamberlain, wife of famed Union Major General Joshua Chamberlain of the 20th Maine. The envelope is addressed: "Mrs. Fannie Chamberlain, Care of Prof. JL Chamberlain, Brunswick, Maine." This would have been sent to Fanny (real name Frances Caroline "Fanny" Chanberlain) around the brink of the Civil War, as her husband was a former college professor before enlisting. This letter was addressed by an unknown sender. Envelope has some staining and is small. No letter included. Please see photos for condition and size. A nice collectible piece of Chamberlain memorabilia from a famous name coming out of the CW, particularly the Battle of Gettysburg.
