Delaware County, New York: 1863. 4pp handwritten letter sent by Daniel Wilson to his cousin Hiram, dated March 16, 1863 at Trout Creek, Delaware County, NY. Hiram, likely returned home from fighting in the Civil War, writes about how good the sleighing was in Trout Creek: "Samuel Jackson went by here this morning with his Horses and Cutter he is rather ahead of the rest of the Company A Boys he has come home to enjoy the sleighing...he likes the delaware fires better than the Virginia ones and I dont know as to blame him for that either." Wilson discusses other soldiers, friends and family, talks about diptheria and scarlet fever in town, and writes about the Conscription Act: "There is quite an excitement in regard to this Conscript Act some swear they will not got if they are drafted and the rest are going to pay the little three hundred..." Minor creasing and toning.  [7602]
