Description
Realistic Hand Made Naturalist Ground Squirrel Museum Quality Wood FigurePresented is a wonderfully realistic, intricately hand-painted, hand-made sculpture of a wild woodland creature most closely resembling a Columbian Ground Squirrel, a mostly-vegetarian forager of alpine meadows in Canada and northwestern U.S.. As the photos hopefully show you, the "fur" hide of this animal is intricately textured and painted; teeth (rodentia), whiskers, ears, toes (four), claws, are all formed in terrific detail! This piece would make a wonderful addition to any natural history museum diorama depicting alpine meadow habitat, or picture him mounted on the mantel of your Rocky Mountain cabin home!
There is no artist's signature on the squirrel. We assume that the maker's name was on the original platform. As to its vintage, given the brightness of the paint and robustness of the materials, its age is likely mid-20th century.
The condition of this squirrel figure is very good, with no detectable damage or color loss to any visible surfaces. The figure was apparently attached with glue to a base, as there is glue residue on the underside of the feet, however, it still stands very well without risk of tipping. The only damage to the piece are missing claws. Please view the photos to see the details.
