    There is no letter present - you are only purchasing the postal portion.
    Confederate PAIR CSA#4s, X-Walcott Collection, Plate Variety Pair (diagonal white plate scratch on the plate on both stamps) with a black "RICHMOND Va. SEP 11 1862" circulate datestamp.  A wonderful cover, with an important provenance, docketed on the reverse, including the plate numbers which appear to be Stone 2, Position #35 and #45.
